Handsome Mr. Georgio Armani is a world class bird cage climber. He'd just love a nice Cockatiel lunch! The Cockatiels aren't intimidated however. As you can see one of them just sits there and taunts him.

Food and Fun (Cats on Tuesday)

Why is it that whenever I have chicken or fish in the kitchen, cats emerge from the woodwork? The two worst scavengers are Pipsqueak and Nutmeg. Here they are hoping for (and receiving of course) a few bits of roast chicken:

The children have had their play tunnels out for the past few days, and the cats have been enjoying them tremendously (more than the children?), playing and sleeping in them. Here are Blue and Armani hanging out in neighboring tunnels. I wonder if each knows the other is even there?

The Veil (Cats on Tuesday)

A friend recently gave me a gorgeous, diaphanous bed canopy that her daughter had outgrown.

I knew my 7 year-old daughter would love it, but unfortunately I also knew that the cats would love it too. Long trailing ribbons. Thin, transparent fabric that is easily torn with sharp claws. Cat heaven.

I decided we would give it a try, but that we should be prepared to pass it on to a better home if the cats started trashing it.

And trash it they did. They climbed it. I also found numerous ribbons torn off and left in various locations throughout the house.

But best of all, they loved to sleep in it!

They loved sleeping in the bed veil so much that I tried to keep it longer than I should have.

One day I entered my daughter's room to find the veil finally torn down from the ceiling. They'd managed to pull the hook out of the ceiling and were actually happily sleeping on the canopy.

Note that the criminals are almost the same as in the first set of photos!

We gave it to my daughter's best friend, who by the way, has NO CATS!

Cat and Kid Fun (Cats on Tuesday)

My children love cats, and the cats love them. Blue and Pita are the biggest play-kitties.

One of Blue's favorite games involves being carried around the house by the children in a straw wastepaper basket. He'll play this game for hours!

Playing is very tiring. To recover from an afternoon of fun, Blue needs a nice snuggle with his fluffy pink "Mama Blankie" (he thinks this blanket is his mother):

Velcro is normally a bit of a scaredy cat, but she likes "helping" with any activity on the sofa that involves books or laptop computers. Here she "helps" my daughter with her homework:

When the food runs low in the laundry room, Pipsqueak comes running to find me and meows and meows at me until I follow her in there to remedy the situation.

If the food has been low for a while, usually all the cats are hanging around waiting and then they jump up and begin eating "en masse."

The day of this photo, their were 6 up there at once so I ran to get my camera. By the time I got back, there were only 3 at the dishes. Still...it's a pretty good picture, don't you think?

Pipsqueak the Shiny Cat (Cats on Tuesday)

Pipsqueak is a sweet girl who usually keeps a pretty low profile unless she feels that something is not quite right with the food situation. She closely monitors the food and water and if something is running low, she will come and get me and make me follow her to the laundry room (where the food is) to remedy the problem!

Despite being a large cat, she has a very high pitched, squeaky little meow (hence her name). She is also extremely shiny and nearly impossible to photograph. Using a flash produces far too much reflection, and no flash makes for a blurry picture since she usually doesn't sit still for a photo.

Love Piles (Cats on Tuesday)

I always more or less took it for granted that my eight cats all got along until I read the Cats on Tuesday posts. I guess I am very fortunate to have eight cats that all seem to like each other!

I often find random piles of cats around the house. The piles vary and are not always composed of the same assortment of cats.

Here are a few of the little "love piles" that I have encountered recently:

News:

I was away last week (so no Cats on Tuesday) while the contractor tore apart the ground floor of my house and installed wood floor. Since my kitties are all indoor kitties, I shut the eight of them upstairs so there would be no escapees. They were happy to be released upon my return and had generally behaved themselves up there (although the cat sitter did report an ugly toilet paper shredding incident).

The house is a mess and my two black cats are walking about looking particularly dusty. The floor is gorgeous though!

When the checkout lady at the grocery store says (as she's checking out your cat supplies): "Oh, are you buying for the Humane Society??"

"Well, no," I reply (insert nervous laugh), "I have eight cats."

"Ooooh," says the checkout lady, eying me with great suspicion and distancing herself from me by about a half an inch.

I read her thoughts: "One of THOSE people. Hmmm....."

Dulce update:

Dulce is recovering very well and settling in nicely to my friend Wishy's household of two other cats and four dogs. As long as she stays off Wishy's bed, the other cats are tolerating her. Thank you all for your kind comments last week!

The Lunchtime-Kitty Saga (Cats on Tuesday)

First of all, I am so sorry for my lack of visiting last for week's Cats on Tuesday. I didn't mean to be rude, but my week was so busy that I did very little blogging and am surprised that I even managed a COT post! This week should be calmer.

Last Monday my good friend Wishy and I went out to lunch. Wishy was late and came rushing in saying that she heard a frightened kitten mewing underneath a car and was going to try and get it to come out. The owners of the car arrived and no one could entice the kitten out.

Upon further investigation, they discovered that the kitten's claw was stuck on something in the wheel well of the car, so it couldn't get out, it was trapped. They finally succeeded in freeing the kitten.

The car owners said to my friend: "Just leave it here, it probably belongs to someone." Well, this was a very busy parking lot, right next to a very, very busy highway. No way was Wishy going to release the kitten in that parking lot! How awful! So she put the kitten in her car while we had lunch.

We spent our lunch discussing the adoption options:
- Wishy? She said her husband would divorce her if she brought a cat home (she has two cats and four dogs).
- Humane Society? Option of last resort.
- Me? What! I have 8 cats already! But I am a sucker, so I said..."Well, let me see her after lunch."

I saw her after lunch and she seemed so very sweet and friendly, how could I possibly say no? Besides, once you have 8 cats, what difference does one more make?? So of course I said yes, and decided to take her straight to the vet for all the tests to make sure she didn't have anything contagious that would infect my 8 cats.

I couldn't stay at the vet because I had to take the baby home for a nap, so I left Wishy at the vet's office with the kitten and my credit card.

An hour later my phone rang and it was Wishy saying: "She's mine!" She had fallen head over heels in love with the little kitty during the wait at the vet's office and had called her husband, who reluctantly agreed to keep her. Wishy took her straight home and gave her a bath (she was filthy).

Well, the tale continues. All tests were negative and the vet pronounced the kitten healthy, but she never seemed very interested in food which is odd for a stray cat. By Thursday afternoon, she began vomiting (only watery stuff since she hadn't been eating much), yet wasn't really acting sick. The vomiting continued through the night and by morning she was seeming a bit unwell yet still not terribly sick. Worried Wishy rushed her straight off to the vet who immediately suspected an obstruction. (Wishy, by the way, had been researching on the internet and was convinced she had some sort of fatal kitten virus!)

An x-ray revealed an abnormal gas pocket, but no foreign body, so it must be a soft object. The vets decided to do immediate surgery during their lunch hour to see what the problem was. The result of the surgery? This:

Starving Miss Kitten had eaten the nipple off a baby bottle probably attempting to get at the milk inside. Fortunately the nipple was accessible from the stomach, but was just beginning its way down the small intestine. It must have been in there since before we found her on Monday, since there are no baby bottles at Wishy's house.

$600 later, the kitty, now named Dulce (Spanish for sweet since she is SO sweet!) is home and happily on the mend.

I figure little, approximately seven month-old, Dulce has already used up three of her nine lives: Life 1: Certain death in busy parking lot by busy road. Life 2: Death by being run over (had no one noticed her) from having a claw stuck in a car wheel. Life 3: Death by starvation/obstruction from having an intestine blocked by a baby bottle nipple.

Thanks to Wishy, Dulce has survived all three of these potential deaths and has a wonderful new home. She is settling in nicely with the other two cats and four dogs (although one of the cats would rather see Dulce go back to wherever she came from!).

Wishy has taken down her "kitten-found" posters. No one responded, and as I suspected all along, Wishy has come to the conclusion that Dulce was probably dumped in that busy parking lot. And if she wandered over from somewhere, no one cared enough about her to want her back.

A fairytale ending for miracle kitty! Wishy's reluctant husband has become Dulce's number one fan (he even bought her a cool scratching post/cat house) and I get visitation whenever I want. By the way, Wishy says she is never going out to lunch with me again!

Interesting observation: Dulce is a manx cat (no tail!).

A Blue Update (Cats on Tuesday)

For a while, I was posting only about Blue, and honestly...he is one of my favorite kitties (shhhh... don't tell anyone else). So here is what he has been up to lately:

One of the big events this week was a school book-report that my oldest daughter had to do. It involved a poster, and as you can see, she had lots of help from Pita.

Afterwards, Pita needed a rest. But I think she is a little too big now for the much loved napkin basket!

Sorry I missed Cats on Tuesday last week, but I was sick in bed...with lots of kitty nurses.

Nowhere Good to Sleep...

I am so sorry that I have been remiss lately. I didn't do COT last week, and I didn't visit anyone the week before. I have excuses, but that doesn't matter, what does matter is that the eight kitties and I are back!

Last week I had guests and one of the guest beds is a Murphy bed in the playroom. The cats were SO delighted to have a new bed to sleep on that there were usually at least six of them napping on it (fortunately my guests liked cats and were not allergic).

Now the Murphy bed is stowed away again and life has become dull for kitties. There is nowhere good left to sleep.

After the disappointment of the disappearance of the much loved Christmas tree, not a whole lot has happened here cat-wise.

The eight of them do have a new playtent that they love almost (but not quite) as much as the Christmas tree. That post will be for a week when I have a bit more time.

I returned home from my vacation in Mexico unsure of what I would find at home. After all, there had been eight cats partying unsupervised in my house for a week!

There was a cat sitter who came in once a day to feed them, but I expect that they were perfect little angels for the brief time that she was there each day.

The worst of what I found was of course related to my artificial Christmas tree. There were exactly five ornaments left hanging, the rest were all over the house. Plus it looks like someone finally managed to make the summit, don't you think? Please note that I had had the foresight to attach Mary to the top with a bulldog clip (is that sacrilegious?) and she didn't budge!

This year with eight cats, three of whom are kittens, I had enough cat-experience to know that it would be prudent to leave off all of our lovely, nearly 100 year-old family ornaments from England. We decorated our very sad, sagging (from all the cat climbers over the years), artificial tree with only unbreakable ornaments...and what a WISE DECISION that was!

These were taken of tree-loving Nutmeg and ecstatic kitten Pita before we had even decorated the tree:

OK Blue, what facts do we have to share about you?

1) Blue was part of a litter of four stray kittens that ended up at the local Humane Society. He and his brothers and sisters were fortunately raised in foster care in a home and never actually had to live at the shelter. His foster Mom just loved little Blue (I think he was her favorite) and he would snuggle on the sofa with her every evening when she watched TV. She said she would definitely have a tear in her eye when she finally had to hand him back over to the shelter...but then I took him at eight weeks old, just before he had to go back.

2) He had a tabby sister, tabby brother, and black sister. He was the only gray cat in the litter.

3) Blue has lovely soft grey fur with very subtle tabby stripes that are most easily visible on his tail:

4) Blue's favorite toy is his tail. He spins around chasing it. Sometimes he even hangs over the top of a kitchen chair and attacks his tail through the openings:

5) Blue is in love with my daughter's pink and green fluffy blanket and purrs and kneads on it, thinking it is Mom. Here he is with Pita, snuggling near his blankie:

Nutmeg Has Friends in High Places

Lately Nutmeg has discovered the display ledges that tower above the kitchen cabinets between the kitchen and the dining room. The main floor of my house is very open with ceilings that are two stories high so these shelves are cat heaven and enable them to climb all the way up to the second story landing!

I feel eyes watching me as I work in the kitchen and it is Nutmeg, looking down on me...but don't all cats do that really?

Blue's Places

The next time I have to clean a disgusting orange, esophagus-shaped pile of semi-digested cat fur off the carpet (and it is ALWAYS on a carpet), I'll try to think of this quote and laugh.

The Great Litter Box Drama

This is how exciting my life is:

As I mentioned last week, I had solved (I thought) my one dilemma associated with having eight indoor cats - stinky litter boxes. My new electronic self-scooping litter box seemed great! I was showing it off to everyone who came into my house!

I bought two of them, but since I know that cats can be odd about new litter box experiences, I attempted to introduce the concept gently. I had only put one of the electronic boxes out, and had also kept out two of my original four traditional litter boxes.

The only problem I encountered in my two weeks of trying it out, was a "Mystery Pooper" who was leaving me "presents." Apparently not everyone was as enthralled with the new idea as I was. I came to suspect Velcro.

When I caught Velcro's brother Rugby peeing (twice!) on the rug, I decided to give up. Today I sadly put all the old litter boxes back out (four total) and put away the fancy new one.

It was such an amazing invention though! I had been planning on filming and posting a little movie of it running through its scooping cycle (that's how little it takes to enthrall me). But, I ended up putting it away instead.

One day I will try again, once things have settled back to normal. Next time I will leave all the old litter boxes out and simply set it up by itself in another area of the laundry room, not that there is much extra space in there. Perhaps it will seem less threatening that way.

Judging by the amount of "stuff" collected in the disposable cartridge, most of the cats were using it.

Oh well. It is back to manually scooping five or six times a day I guess. Good thing I don't have a "real job." All I do is change diapers and scoop cat poop it seems. It was fun while it lasted!

An Intruder in the Dollhouse!

The doll house was recently invaded by a feline intruder who took over the whole ground floor kitchen, living room area. Fortunately the dolls were sleeping upstairs at the time, and apart from finding some furniture tipped over when they awoke, were unaware of the invasion.

The other excitement this week: a new automatic, self-cleaning litterbox! We are in an "orientation phase" at the moment since this new technology has met with some resistance from a mystery cat who has been leaving nightly "presents" (maybe they really are unplugged cats!). Baby Blue (Cats on Tuesday)

OK, I know I talk about Blue a lot on this blog, but he is the kitten who likes to eat tomatoes. I have discovered recently that he also likes strawberries and peas.

He is the cat that comes on my lap first whenever I sit down. He is in love with the fluffy pink and green throw on my daughter's bed. He is the one who finds the best places to sleep. The napkin basket...or the doll cradle in the playroom, especially when it is in the sun. Big kitties Pipsqueak and Rugby watch over him here:

The kittens are growing. Everyone gets along fine now, even crazy White Kitty likes the kittens! All hissing has stopped.

I find them asleep in different combinations. Here is Nutmeg and the three babies on my daughter's bed. Look how big the kittens are now compared to adult kitty Nutmeg!

Little Mr. Blue still loves to sleep in his napkin basket, although he takes up much more room in there now. He gets in it and sleeps when the kids are busy at the table with homework and various other projects. It is really cute! I think we'll have to replace it with a bigger basket for him soon.

A Mystery - Solved! (Cats on Tuesday)

I like to keep a bowl of little tomatoes on the kitchen counter because they make such a tasty and healthy snack. But for a few weeks now, I have been finding nasty, half chewed ones in the bowl (see photo above).

Because little boys enjoy being disgusting, I naturally accused my five year-old son of biting them and spitting them back out into the bowl. He vehemently denied this, but I simply thought he was lying! After all, who else could it be?

Well...my poor son has been vindicated and I had to apologize to him. Last night I caught the real culprit in the act of chewing those little tomatoes. The real villain is...

...Blue!!

Yes, it turns out that Blue LOVES tomatoes better than anything else in the whole world!

The Kittens Sleep Like a Baby

This past week has been very dramatic as we have been fighting an outbreak of ringworm among the kittens. Pita had it first (picked up no doubt at the shelter), then it quickly spread to Armani and Blue. I am especially eager to be rid of it before it infects the other 5 cats...or us!

The vet shaved the affected areas and prescribed an oral antifungal, an ointment, and an antifungal shampoo. My sister came over to assist with the first shampoo on Sunday...fun, fun, fun! Definitely a two person (at least) job. Needless to say, the cats were NOT impressed with the procedure.

Last, but definitely not least - Armani (he has the worst case of it):

The damage we sustained was much less than expected. I, the scrubber and rinser, escaped quite wet, but completely uninjured. My sister, the holder, got this scratch from little Blue. Blue fought the hardest and was quite pleased to have drawn blood I am sure!

Ringworm Facts:

- Ringworm is a fungus, not a worm as the name seems to indicate.

- Symptoms: circular areas of fur loss with scaly, crusty lesions. Lesions glow bright green under a fluorescent light.

- Most common areas of the body for lesions to occur are the head, ears, forelegs, or paws.

- Spores are extremely resistant to household disinfectants and may be able to live up to a year in carpeting, bedding etc. (YUCK!).

Every time I share my life with kittens I am always newly in awe of their energy, and stunned by the amount of trouble they can get into (like some children really).

Pita, the real hooligan of the bunch, has discovered a room dividing screen in the front hall. She climbs it at every opportunity! Here she attempts to impress her audience of Blue and Armani. (Notice how Armani is attacking Blue's tail in photo number two.)

Mr. Armani can swim! While trying to reach a floating bath toy, Armani slipped and fell in the tub during the baby's bath today. He swam several laps around the bath before looking like he wanted out. I hauled him out and dried him as best I could with a towel.

A Rapprochement (Well...Sort of!) - Cats on Tuesday

I have to say, for having been only three weeks at home together, my kittens and adult kitties are doing remarkably well! There is still some hissing and rude cat language, but we have had major progress between Blue (I think he will just end up being called Blue) and the two more senior black cats. My two adult black kitties are definitely the most relaxed and accepting of the whole group of adult cats. In my experience, black cats are always the most laid back of the bunch for some reason!

I found Blue here on a chair with Pipsqueak. Note how they are pretending not to notice one another:

Blue (who appears to be the real snuggle bug of the three kittens) tries his smooth moves here on Rugby. Rugby appears to be a bit put out by this forwardness at first:

Last, but definitely not least, Armani (who seems to be the youngest of the three, probably younger than the Humane Society thought) is still most in love with this fluffy green blanket that we have nicknamed "Mom:"

Kitten Update (Cats on Tuesday)

The three new kittens are settling in nicely and have discovered the following pleasures of life:

We still don't know about Blue's real name. Gattina had the wonderful suggestion last week of calling him "Blue" in Italian: Azuro. It is lovely, but I don't think native English speakers do too well with those lovely Italian "R's." And Azurrrrro, with an American "R,' might not do. What do you all think?

Baby Number Three (Cats on Tuesday)

We picked up 8 week-old baby number three last Wednesday straight from the clinic where he had just been neutered. He grew up in Humane Society foster care and never actually had to go to the shelter.

Here he is! Isn't he precious? With five adult cats already, we really didn't need three kittens, but how could we have left him behind? He is so soft and fluffy and feisty. His fur is a gorgeous blue-grey with faint stripes. His eyes are grey-green. I have had many cats in my life, but never a grey one and I have always thought that they were beautiful.

His name is still being debated, Right now we call him "Blue" but he may soon be renamed.

So far all is going quite well with feline relations. There has been some hissing and spitting and posing between the kittens and the grown-ups, but all in all they are tolerating each other pretty well and the black cats (Pipsqueak and Rugby) actually play with them already!

Velcro (the remaining Tortie) is the most put out, but she is slowly improving. Crazy White Kitty is happily in a state of denial and spends most of the day on the phone with her therapist.

I am hoping one day to be able to post an "Eight On The Bed" photo for you all.

TJ, the new dog, is not sure what to make of them. He wants to play with them but is a little intimidated. It is pretty funny to watch!

Our New Babies (Cats on Tuesday)

Sorry I am so late posting my Cats on Tuesday. For you Europeans it will be more like Cats on Wednesday! I am behind in all areas of my life at the moment and am struggling to catch up, so this post will be short.

I want to introduce my two (soon to be three) new babies. Please meet Pita (10 weeks):

The third baby will come home tomorrow.

For those of you who are doing the math, yes this means that I have 7 (soon to be 8) cats. I just hope they all get along eventually. However, so far so good!

My excuses: I just love having cats about the place, and I do have a very big house so they have lots of room to roam. Plus there are so many needy kittens at the local Humane Society right now, I felt we had to do our part and take more than one new baby.

Words of Comfort - Thank You

When I moved my cats over from Unplug Your Kids to their new home, all comments were lost in transferring the posts. I could not however, bear to lose all the wonderful comments from my friends on the post about Ms. Fuzzy's death.

So, here they are in their own post. They are all so sweet and heartfelt that they definitely deserve the spotlight of their own post.

Thank you all again for your concern for Ms. Fuzzy and me. It makes me feel really good to know that there are such kind people in the world!

Oh these are really bad news ! You know I had exactly the same with our first white cat Arthur I, he was just a year old, was in good health, played etc and then one morning I found him "sleeping" in the garden. He was dead ! I couldn't believe it, he was so normal even in the morning. I took him to the vet and she examinated him and told me that he had died from a heart attack and it seems to me that it was the same with Fuzzy.Very nice that you will give a home to a new kitten. I wish you to pick out one like Rosie, she is so easy and adorable.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this! What a sad thing to have happen on your vacation -- I sometimes worry that my cats will be okay when I go on my times away, but so far they have been all right. That is a mystery, since she was so young. I wonder if she wasn't needed to welcome other arrivals at the Bridge. She was a pretty girl and I'm glad you have such good memories of her, and that you're taking another homeless kitty into your home.

God Speed Ms. Fuzzy - We Love You (Cats on Tuesday)

Hello Cats On Tuesday friends. We had a lovely time, but I am finally back from my long vacation and am pleased to be home again with my kitties.

Unfortunately I have sad news to report for my first Tuesday home: while I was away, Ms. Fuzzy passed away.

It happened just a few days into my trip. The cat sitter called and left a message for me to call her. I knew this could not be good news. The sitter arrived one morning to feed the tribe and saw Ms. Fuzzy lying in the middle of the floor. She looked like she was asleep, so the sitter went over to pet her, thinking that she had chosen a strange spot for a nap. When she stroked her, she realized that she had died.

At first, I didn't know which tortie kitty it was. Ms. Fuzzy and her sister Velcro looked so much alike, it took my sister to go over and determine who the remaining tortie was. My sister, my kids, and myself were the only ones who could tell the two sisters apart.

There was no sign of injury or illness. I had an autopsy done but the vet found nothing amiss. It must have been sudden because if she had felt unwell she would have sought out a dark space under a bed, or a chair. The day before she died, she and her sister Velcro met the sitter at the door and "helped" her feed the birds, as they did everyday. All seemed well.

We miss Ms. Fuzzy. She was found as a young kitten literally freezing to death, abandoned in a snow drift with her brother (Rugby) and "twin" sister (Velcro). I have to remember that we gave her a great life at our Kitty Five Star Resort, albeit a short life (she was not quite one year-old). For some reason her little soul decided it was time to move on.

The good news is that we have decided that we have room in our lives for another homeless kitten. My cat sitter works full-time at the local Humane Society and she says they are overrun with kittens. More to come on that.

Happy Cats On Tuesday. I'm glad to be back.

Rugby thinks Pipsqueak is his "mom" and follows her around everywhere. She does not think much of this, and these love sessions always end up with a swat across the face from Pipsqueak that temporarily drives Rugby away. He is undaunted however, and still adores his unwilling "mom."

In-House Ornithologist (Cats on Tuesday)

Today I would like to introduce you to Nutmeg, the Cats Unplugged In-House Ornithologist.

The photo above is of indoor-kitty Nutmeg in her favorite summer location: sandwiched between the window screen of the open window, and the back of the cockatiel cage. Here, in addition to enjoying spring breezes and exciting outdoor smells, Nutmeg can multi-task. From this close vantage point, she is able to take notes on cockatiel behavior of course, yet she also has a perfect view of the outdoor bird feeders for wildlife observation.

In fact for you bird watchers out there, put on your glasses, grab your magnifier, and if you have keen eyes (and click on the photo above to enlarge), you can make out a Steller's Jay on the deck railing above Nutmeg's ear.

Nutmeg's areas of interest include bird grooming habits, bird identification, and bird diet (Hypothesis: "Birds can indeed be part of a feline South Beach diet"). You can see by the photo above that she has a keen eye and no detail is missed.

Another subject of study is bird communication. The cockatiels say "squawk" and Nutmeg says "chatter, chatter, chatter." Here she is engaged in deep, intellectual conversation with Percy (face-to-face with Nutmeg in photo above). Are we witnessing the first instance of cross-species communication?

Here is Percy (aka. Mr. PC) engaged in "The Flock Call," a ritualistic song and dance involving melodious "talking" and cage orbiting with wings uplifted in a heart-shaped position. Observe how Nutmeg stares intently, taking in every detail of Mr. PC's movements for later recording in her scientific notes. Move over Margaret Mead!

Nutmeg's four sisters and one brother also show an inclination toward ornithology and mathematics, unfortunately however, their interest is purely of the culinary variety. This can be summarized in a simple mathematical equation that the five of them have derived:

Nutmeg assures me that she is above all those primitive urges and her interest is exclusively scientific.

Hello, I am White Kitty. Sometimes my Mom calls me Roswell because she thinks I look like a Grey Alien. Silly Mom! Here are some White Kitty Factoids:

I am an Oriental Shorthair

My Mom found me at the local Humane Society. I was there because the humans I lived with before decided that they didn't want me anymore after having had me for five years (since I was a baby).

Sometimes I can be a silly girl. I am a little nervous around strangers, but I LOVE MY MOM!!

My favorite hobbies include bed making and throwing up on Mom's nicest things.

I have a very loud purr and loud, Siamese-type "meow." I like to talk a lot.

I hate to be picked up, but I love to be stroked.

If you do pick me up (but please don't!), you will see that I feel very heavy, solid and muscular despite my lean appearance.

I like to stay warm and my favorite winter place is on top of a heating vent.
I now live with four sisters and one brother whom I like a lot. Sometimes we all sleep together in one big, warm kitty pile!

Today I would like you all to meet the Cats Unplugged Travel Coordinator!

Ms. Fuzzy, posing here under the Eiffel Tower, makes all domestic and international travel arrangements with the utmost efficiency.

She is herself, a bit of a world traveler, having traveled from Who Knows Where, to the Big Cold Snow Drift where she and her two siblings were abandoned as three month-old kittens, and finally to the Luxury Kitty Resort where she currently resides. Ms. Fuzzy thinks perhaps it is in France, but she is not too sure.

Please meet Belle (aka. Bella, aka. Sniper Tongue) the Cats Unplugged Chief of Security. Despite her humble Humane Society beginnings, Belle now plays an important role in family life.

Don't be fooled by her gentle demeanor and obsequious behavior towards her humans. If you are a squirrel invader or a golfer in search of a wayward ball- watch out! You risk being barked or licked to death. Belle's constant surveillance keeps us safe from all squirrels and golfers with less than honest intentions.

When not busy patrolling the perimeter, Belle's hobbies include playing with her favorite live feline squeaky toys, riding in the car, collecting doggie treats from the local drive-through coffee place, and sleeping under the bed.

Today I would like to introduce White Kitty, aka. Roswell:

White Kitty is the Cats Unplugged Artistic Director, or as she prefers to be called, our "artiste" (pronounced "R- teest" please!!).

Unfortunately White Kitty's exceptional talents are occasionally hindered by her chronic bulimia and the need to be on the phone to her therapist at least three times per day. White Kitty suffers for her art and we honor her.

She would like to take this opportunity to thank all the "little people" who helped her rise to her present position of glory. She would also like to thank everyone at the local Humane Society who saw her greatness and allowed her this opportunity to create and contribute and.....

Head of Catering

Today I would like to introduce "Pipsqueak," aka. "Squickpeep," the Cats Unplugged Head of Catering.

Thanks to Pipsqueak's constant monitoring of the food and water bowls, we can rest easy knowing that no one will ever go hungry in this household. Pipsqueak has set in place an effective program of 24 hour food dish surveillance. At the first sign of a dwindling supply she fetches "The Food Lady" and demands a refill.

My staff thanks you Miss Pipsqueak for your unfailing dedication to the state of their tummies. An added bonus, she is so shiny that she also doubles as a mirror (well, almost).

Please allow me to introduce my highly talented Webmaster, "Rugby." Mr. Rugby specializes in cursor-chasing and foot warming. He is one of a team of six esteemed assistants without whose dedication and resourcefulness, this blog would not be in existence (which might have been a good thing).
